Game Of Thrones rightly gets a lot of stick for the downturn in the quality of writing past season 4 with Season 8 damaging the brand hugely. Put simply the more the show runners David Benioff and D.B Wise moved away from George R R Martin's source material the worse the writing became. But something that i have questioned over the years is why even now does the last season of Game Of Throne in particular cause so much outrage. Well it's because i think a lot of people have forgotten that at it's core, Game Of Thrones was a era defining TV show at one point with excellent writing even when the showrunners made changes from the books, thus why it's downfall hit so much harder.
