I visit Cossington Meadows nature reserve, which is managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland wildlife trust. On a cold. -5 degree morning, ground was frozen as were the pools and lakes. There was plenty of wildlife around and some livestock in the fields, Here I encountered a Kestrel and a Barn owl warming himself up in a nest box, asleep.

However, my day was marred by traffic hold ups and dog walkers. Now I am not against dogs on nature reserves per se, but many times I encounter dog walkers who are clearly not following the nature reserves clear guidelines of keeping them on leads and under control. It is my opinion though that a nature reserve is not really the ideal place to take dogs, but I do respect that they are allowed in most cases. Many of them means a car journey is needed, so is there somewhere closer like a recreation park etc?
