Build this A-10 THUNDERBOLT out of Wood!

I guess I like making toy airplanes. I've done a biplane and a Curtiss WARHAWK, and they were fun... and based on plans. But THIS time, I went in a different direction and decided to wing it (ahem) and build an A-10 THUNDERBOLT (or WARTHOG, if you prefer). This sucker was a challenge in so many ways.

Getting the shape and proportions right (or right enough) was the first hurdle. Figuring out how to make the landing gear was another. Perhaps the biggest hurdle was getting this plane to sit on all three landing gear, as the rear of this aircraft with its two vertical tails and rear-mounted engines make it squat in the back. No jokes here, please. But, challenges are made to be overcome, and so that's what I did here.

If you like sanding, you're gonna love this video. Much of the work done on these planes is not in cutting out the parts, but rather in shaping them to look like wings instead of flat pieces of lumber. But, if you hang in there with me, and then adapt to your own style and your own tools, some child is going to love what comes out of your shop. Have fun!
