Democratic Transition in Pakistan and the Election of 2013

For the past five years, after the 2008 overthrow of the Musharraf-led military regime, Pakistan has embarked on a path of democratic transition. This will culminate with a General Election later this year. The relationships among the political parties, the military, extremists, the judiciary, media and civil society are complex, to say the least, and no doubt influence this current path of democracy. Beyond all the national stakeholders, there are also implications for international stakeholders as well.

Syed Jawad Ali Shah comes to the Maxwell School for pursue an EMPA degree. He has an interest in policy analysis, private public partnerships, international trade and finance, public finance, public management reform and strategic management. Most recently, Mr. Shah served as the Deputy Commissioner in the Regional Tax Office, Lahore. Mr. Shah holds bachelor's degrees from the University of the Punjab and from the University of Engineering & Technology Lahore.
