Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of https://www.StohrerMusic.com gets a good grip on the third rail and offers up an opinion of what resonators do (and don't do) as well as providing some perspective on how to think about them that is possibly more useful than the status quo, although as usual it is a little more complex and less satisfying.

Also, this is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong, misguided, but also handsome and I make no claim that this is the final answer on resonators. If giant platinum plated resonators make you happy, do that! No big deal.
