The Great Western Steam Up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum!

Описание к видео The Great Western Steam Up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum!

In July of 2022, the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City hosted the Great Western Steam Up. This massive four day event included numerous attractions and displays, food trucks, vendors, and more. The highlight of the event (and focus of this video) were the sixteen historic steam locomotives on the premises, nine of which were operational.

The Steam Up commemorated the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, and six of the engines present were of V&T heritage. A list of all locomotives total is below. Feel free to look into the history of each one yourself.

Standard Gauge:
•Virginia and Truckee 4-4-0 #11, "Reno".
•V&T 4-4-0 #12, "Genoa".
•V&T 4-4-0 #18, "Dayton".
•V&T 2-4-0 #21, "J.W. Bowker".
•V&T 4-4-0 #22, "Inyo".
•V&T 4-6-0 #25.
•V&T 2-6-0 #1, "Lyon" (Replica still under construction).
•Santa Cruz Portland Cement 0-4-0T #2, "Chiggen".
•Bluestone Mining and Smelting two-truck Heisler #1.
•Dardanelle and Russellville 4-4-0 #8.

Narrow Gauge:
•Carson and Tahoe Lumber and Fluming 2-6-0 "Glenbrook".
•Nevada County Narrow Gauge 2-6-0 #5 (former C&TL&F "Tahoe).
•Southern Pacific 4-6-0 #18.
•Antelope and Western 0-4-0 #1.
•Dayton, Sutro and Carson Valley 0-4-2T "Joe. Douglass".
•Eureka and Palisade 4-4-0 #4, "Eureka".

Two passenger trains, one standard gauge and the other narrow, ran around the museum's dual gauge loop throughout the day. V&T #25 and "Glenbrook" led the morning trains, later swapping places with BM&S #1 and SPNG #18, which led the afternoon trains. We'll see on board and trackside footage of these runs. Around noon we head to the enginehouse, examining many of the locos up close.
At 1pm, a pageant was held as several locomotives were shown off on the turntable.
Toward the end of the day, NCNG #5 makes a few laps around the loop with "Inyo" and coach #4 following close behind. Finally, we'll end this video as the locomotives are put away for the day.
