If you are tired of eating Tex/Mex, just hop over to the sprawling border city of Tijuana🇲🇽 for authentic beef enchilada served with black beans, Spanish rice and guacamole sauce🍛🍺🥘 plus a bonus serenade by a Mariachi band from Guadalajara at El Torito Pub Restaurant and Iguanas-Ranas Night Club Pub*😜🎻🪗🪕🎺

Dallas to San Diego✈️: Good Friday✝️ 23. 4.1999
Delta #DL887 B737-300 (N308WA) boarding at Gate 31

Picked up by airport shuttle from Hampton Inn @ 1015 Elm St, West End. Take Exit 430 to Market Center Blvd/Wycliff Ave, merge on N Stemmons Freeway and use the left lane to take the ramp onto I-35E. The creeping thought of President John F Kennedy’s limousine speeding off to Parklands Memorial Hospital on that fateful day on 22 November 1963 suddenly crossed my mind.

Keep left to stay on TX-183 and pass Texas Stadium in Irving, home of Dallas Cowboys from 1971 to 2008 season (demolished in 2010, now a storage facility for Texas Department of Transportation). Continue onto TX-97 Spur to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW).

Check-in at Rodeway Inn, and early on Saturday morning take San Diego ‘Blue Line’ Trolley🚉 at 5th Avenue, 45 minute journey to US🇺🇸/Mexico🇲🇽 border town of San Ysidro and cross by a pedestrian bridge to Tijuana, the busiest border crossing in the world - no visa required for one day excursion, privileged to set foot on Mexican🇲🇽 soil*💓

Walk one block to Fontera Street where you can take a taxi downtown, or follow a walkway for pedestrians across the street to Plaza Viva Tijuana, an open-air mall with lots of pharmacies targeted at US customers, restaurants, handicraft & souvenir shop connected by a bridge to downtown.

Return to San Diego before peak hour, get off at America Plaza - Santa Fe Depot, visit nearby USS Midway Museum at the Navy Pier and the Waterfront, stroll north along the Embarcadero walkway on Harbor Drive past the boats at Port of San Diego Cruise Ship Terminal, Anthony's Fish Grotto, 'Star of India', the world's oldest active sailing ship and flagship of the Maritime Museum, to just outside the airport as planes land and walk back past St Joseph’s Cathedral✝️ on 1535 3rd Avenue, two blocks from my hotel, before the 7 pm Vigil Saturday service.

"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started, and know the place for the first time" - TS Eliot: “Little Gidding”, 1943
