The classic GE 7-2945A is a very easy to find portable radio on the used marketplace. It represents a solid investment and will provide the operator years of service. Having a built in AC cord gives you the option to make this a shop or kitchen radio as well. During this Daytime medium wave band scan I find that this radio is very capable and sounds mellow with it's Four Inch Speaker.

Overall, bring a passive loop such as the Terk Advantage, and you will be able to listen to many distant MW stations. The analog tuning is smooth and the radio even has a working NOAA Weather Band. Awesome!
