Learning how to move from sitting to standing is a task itself, especially for knee injuries, post-surgically and for the elderly or frail. In Physio we like to use a split stance to help improve the sit to stand ability, have less reliance on the arms and provide a more efficient and comfortable way of standing up from a chair. We then use this at home for patients to practice to actually strengthen their legs and knees in this position - as it can be done every time they move in and out of a chair, bed or sofa.

Once there is enough strength to do this you can progress the exercise to one leg eccentric and then single leg sit to stands - which are part of the ACL RTS program.

1️⃣ Split stance sit to stand
2️⃣ Sit to stand - 1 leg eccentric
3️⃣ Single leg sit to stand
