Many residents were disturbed and appalled by what they witnessed in last night’s City Council meeting in regards to the sexual harassment complaints of young women employed by Evanston Parks & Recreation. Is 3rd Ward Alderperson Melissa Wynne deflecting the heat to keep the public from questioning her and other city officials and staff of prior years from their role in the alleged cover-ups of young women being sexually harassed or assaulted? Many are demanding Alderperson Melissa Wynne be censured and ordered to issue a public apology to 8th Ward Alderperson Devon Reid for publicly criminalizing an innocent Black man who had been wrongfully arrested by the City of Evanston, stripped of his staff and duties as City Clerk, under constant attack by the former City Manager, current city HR department, former City Attorney, and several Alderpersons on and before his first day of work as Evanston City Clerk. Since then Alderperson Reid survived the brutal attacks on his career and his character for the past five years and cleared of false accusations that many believed were set-ups to end his political career…until he was faced with yet another attack last night, out of the blue. Many want to know when does it end and why did Alderperson Wynne shift the focus onto Alderperson Reid instead of on those responsible at the City of Evanston for the alleged harassment and cover-ups of many young women who have been filing complaints before Alderperson Reid became a City Clerk or an Alderperson? Many believe Alderperson Melissa Wynne is sucking up to her 3rd Ward affluent Caucasian constituents by using her white privilege to publicly attack a Black man on false accusations?
