A fire caused by a large explosion broke out at a secret Iranian military complex in Parchin on Sunday.

State news agency IRNA said two people died in the explosion. No other details were given, Reuters reported.

Iran is suspected of having conducted tests related to the manufacture of nuclear weapons, the BBC reported.

Images obtained by the US-based Institute for Science and International Security show destroyed and damaged buildings.

Satellite images from 2012 show earthmoving equipment and water tanks at the site.

Images from 2013 reveal large areas of ground have been covered by asphalt. These activities have drawn allegations that Iran is trying to hide evidence of nuclear-related activities at the site.

According to the BBC, in the alleged ‘clean-up efforts’, some buildings have been demolished and connecting roads have been torn up.

The U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency have tried to arrange a visit to the Parchin military complex, but Iran has not yet granted access to the site.

According to Reuters, Tehran says Parchin is a normal military complex and that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful.
