India: 13 Killed After Indian Navy Boat Collides With Ferry Off Mumbai Coast; Over 100 Rescued

At least thirteen people died and 101 others were rescued after a Navy speedboat collided with a ferry off the Mumbai coast in Maharashtra on December 18. The Neelkamal ferry was on its way to Elephanta Island, a tourist destination near Mumbai, when the speedboat crashed into it. The victims included 10 civilians and three Navy personnel, while two individuals suffered critical injuries. The ferry was carrying 110 passengers, including 20 children. Authorities deployed 11 aircraft and helicopters for rescue operations. A Navy spokesperson explained that the collision occurred after the Navy craft lost control. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced ex-gratia for the families of the deceased.
