http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com The hard enduro practice session. Air pressures are meticulously checked as the tiniest variation could mean failure instead of success. Ha, who are we kidding. 99% of our crashes are rider error but it's always fun to blame your air pressures for falling off. We have plenty of different obtacles for practice sessions now on our various private properties. But today? There's a new tractor tyre so it's time to warm up then get some practice at climbing vertical faces for extreme enduro. Ben wants to try the double blip and zap clutch techniques. Once a vertical face is tall enough in a hard enduro, you can't just wheelie over it. You need to deliberately punch it with your front wheel to get lift. Tougher than it sounds. Andrew generously shows us what happens if you punch the tyre too low. If you aim too high, you don't get the lift needed. The problem with tractor tyres? Once you are on top then it's easy to fall off. And if you aren't careful, you can go over the bars on the extreme enduro descent. Here's a quick guide for how to climb vertical faces. See our full training vid for more details on this and double blip and zap clutch techniques. Ben tries this tractor tyre a few weeks later after a lot of rain. The ground is very slippery so he's trying the double blip technique. One burst of throttle lifts the front wheel, the front wheel punches the obstacle and compresses the suspension, then you do a controlled drop of the clutch, or zap, to get even more lift and drive. The problem? He's not getting good traction on the ground. And the tractor tyre is wet too, so the rear wheel is spinning there too and not providing that final bit of lift to get up for how to climb vertical faces. The double blip and the zap are both trials techniques, see our training vids for more extreme enduro information. And finally success! What are the other guys up to with our hard enduro practice? Danny is just starting to learn wheelies from a standstill. If you like riding technical terrain, this is an invaluable skill to learn for climbing vertical obstacles. The idea is to get the front wheel high but with minimal increase in speed. Most riders learn how to do wheelies competely the wrong way... big handfuls of throttle and rapid accelation. This gets you into trouble fast in technical terrain. So it's all about using your body positioning and compressing that suspension so you actually need very little throttle to lift the front wheel. Danny is doing the right way. Learning on nice soft grass. Taking his time. Starting small and working his way up. And remember to learn how to cover the rear brake too! See our Youtube playlist for all our wheelie training vids and a breakdown of the skills for climbing vertical obstacles on a dirt bike. The rise of extreme enduro has seen a new breed of riders, pushing the boundaries of what is possible on a dirt bike. Around 95% of the top extreme enduro riders are former trials riders. So it's not surprising these guys say the key to learning to ride fast is first slow down and get your fundamental techniques right. The past few years Graham Jarvis has been the king of the extreme enduro world, and we've even started our own religion based on his teachings. We even got to ask his holiness on how to make our bikes do the crazy shit his bike does and learn how to ride a dirt bike properly. It can be inspiring, but also demoralising to see how well these guys ride. We figured if you can't beat them, join them. Interested in supporting the vids? For the cost of a cup of coffee every month, our supporters get access to special weekly vids that are even dodgier than our crappy training vids. And we go way beyond the training vids. There are our regular riding vids, the really really stupid vids, there are even philosophical vids. All guaranteed dodgy. And if they don't make you better rider, they might at least be amusing. If your IQ is low enough. So past few years, a bunch of us in our 50s thought we would try to learn as much of this shit as possible, before dementia and arthritis slow us down. And along the way we've been pumping out free dodgy enduro training vids for everyone. And being free they come with a money back guarantee if they make you ride worse... and they probably will. Need more dirt bike vids? Remember we have over 350 supporter vids for when too much dirt muppetry isn't quite enough.
