Unboxing, setup and review of the Brother DCP-L2530DW all-in-one wireless laser printer.. copy, scan, and print. It's a relatively compact printer and is reasonably priced (I bought this one for £140 in April 2021).

You can find it on Amazon here; https://amzn.to/322pEdR

The 'starter' toner in that comes in the box says it's good for 700 prints (depending on % coverage), so I'll see how we get on with that. The drum is rated for 12,000 pages! In the video I show you how to install the toner cartridge and drum into the printer.. it's very straight forward!

It's quite speedy, at 30ppm, and does duplex (2-sided) printing, which I found some of the HP equivalents don't do at this price. It was also a lot less bulky then the HPs.. well the ones that had a paper tray & did copy+scan, so I'm very happy with this one from Brother.

So far it's been working well over wi-fi with a Windows 10 laptop (no drivers needed to be installed) and an iPad (via AirPrint). Scanning worked without a hitch in the Windows-based 'Fax and Scan' app. I didn't try scanning on the iPad, but there's a Brother app for that.

I'm hoping that using 3rd party toner will work just as well as it does in the Brother HL-L2375DW I own.. I'll report back as this one gets some use by our grandparents. The unboxing of the HL-L2375DW is here;    • Unboxing the Brother HL-L2350DW Monoc...

The 3rd party toner I've used in my Brother HL-L2350DW without any issues is here https://amzn.to/2QPpB3k - I can't guarantee they'll work with the DCP-L2530DW, nor that Brother haven't updated the firmware to detect them, but they worked fine for me & I currently have one installed and working. Worth a go.. since you get 2x for about £30, and you can return them if they don't work.

I'm using the built-in printer options on the iPad which scans the wifi for available printers & shows it as an option when it finds it. That can sometimes take a little bit of prodding/cajoling to initially appear when you're turning it on from cold, but generally it's quite reliable. I don't use any Brother apps or anything like that, which is nice. Power consumption when turning it on is ~1kw, but that's just as it warms up and not for long (under a minute). If you don't use it often, just long-press the power button to turn it off (which is what I do). Power consumption is stated to be; printing=440w, ready=42w, sleep=6.2w, deep sleep=0.6w, off=0.03w.
