3D Printing biocompatible materials is an innovation for the dental industry that's now well established, saving dentists time and money. Restorative dentistry has already undergone a digital transformation, having adopted intraoral scanning, CBCT, and milling of zirconia or lithium disilicate. Cutting-edge options are now available for digital impressions, and treatment planning, and have become the new gold standard of care. 3D printers from FormLabs, StrataSys, SprintRay, Kulzer, and NextDent can produce crown or bridge models, clear aligner models, surgical guides, splints/occlusal guards, patterns for casting and pressing, Hawley retainers, and full dentures. Three 3D printing technologies are commonly used in dental clinics: stereolithography (SLA), digital light processing, and material jetting. 3D printing is now available at a fraction of the traditional cost, without compromising quality, accuracy, or material versatility. Restorative dentistry is embracing 3D printing.
