Модель FL появилась в линейке Harley-Davidson в 1941 году и до 1948 года практически не изменялась. Ее появление - это ответ на просьбы спецслужб разработать модель, еще более мощную и динамичную, чем модель EL.

FL стал самым дорогим мотоциклом в производственной программе Harley-Davidson 1941 года. Для сравнения: мотоцикл стоил $465, а средний годовой доход американца в то время составлял $515! Несмотря на это, модель FL пользовалась огромным спросом. Количество проданных машин приближалось к 2,5 тысячам.

Но 7 декабря 1941 года японцы атаковали Перл-Харбор, и Соединенные Штаты вступили в войну. Модель FL не попала в обойму военных заказов, и её производство замерло на мизерном уровне (например, в 1943 году – всего 33 аппарата). Лишь после окончания войны дела компании пошли на поправку.

The FL model appeared in the Harley-Davidson range in 1941 and remained virtually unchanged until 1948. Its appearance is a response to the requests of intelligence agencies to develop a model even more powerful and dynamic than the EL model.

The FL was the most expensive motorcycle in the Harley-Davidson 1941 production range. By comparison, the motorcycle cost $465, and the average annual income of an American at that time was $515! Despite this, the FL model was in great demand. The number of sold cars was close to 2.5 thousand.

But on December 7, 1941 the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, and the United States entered the war. The FL model was not included in the military orders, and its production was frozen at a negligible level (for example, in 1943 – only 33 machines). It was only after the war that the company's business improved.
