The injections used are 3 types, agonists, antagonists and the gonnadotropin injections, apart from that there are progesterone injections as well. They go by many names, leuprolide, nafrelin. The commonly used ones are the leuprolide injections can be given as a depot preparation or as a daily injection, which is usually used in agonists cycle in long agonist protocol, we start the injection on the 21st day of the previous cycle. This goes on till the trigger injections. Coming to the gonnadotropin injections. One is human menopausal gonadotropins, which are a combination of follicle stimulating hormones as well as luteinizing hormones. The other is a recombinant FSH, that is a follicle stimulating hormone or it can be a leutinising hormone. So these are the injection used for the IVF procedure. These are the injections used for the IVF procedure. These help in the growth of the egg. These are given form the day 2 of the present cycle till the egg size comes upto 18 mm. This helps in increasing the number of eggs in that cycle. The aim of IVF is to get about 8 to 10 eggs and the size of the egg is about 18 to 20 mm. when this is achieved the trigger injection is given. The third category of injection is antagonist injections are usually of two types and are started when the egg size is around 14 mm or the serum estradiol levels has crossed 400 millimeteres. This is another variety of GnRh analogues. The agonists from the previous cycle is used to suppress the hormone, whereas this antagonists suppresses the hormone as and when required. So these can be given on the 5th or ht 6th day from the start of the gonadrotropin injections. So what happens is when we use long agonists protocol, the number of injections used increase, whereas when an antagonists is used, then starts from the 5th day only. First 5 days of cycle there will be only 1 injection. This is an easier injection antagonists because we starts on the 2nd day of the cycle, whereas the antagonists we start n the 21st day of the previous cycle. These three are the main injections involved in various stimulation. Also when w e talk about injections involved in IVF, luetal phase support involves progesterone injections that can be used according to the protocol used. But this can also be substituted by the gels and capsules. So these are not that mandatory when compared to the injections in ovarian stimulation phase.
