Made this on a whim! We touched a bit on this subject at school so I had to make a vid about it lol

Ngl learning about this was so goofy.. my teacher showed us a video using countryballs, also what do you mean they attacked British fishing ships thinking they were Japanese when Japan is on the other side of the world?? And they went around Africa?? And then they started a revolution?? (considering how long the travel is and the conditions, reasonable crashout)

[0:07-0:11] This war was fought around northeastern China and Korea, also this war led to Japan taking over Korea which later led to... the atrocities they committed in WW2.
[0:19-0:21] It started because of a surprise attack--Japanese ships attacked a Russian fleet in Port Arthur (in Manchuria). The attack was on February 8, 1904, but the declaration itself was received 3 hours later (which is why Russia is confused)
[0:22-0:26] This war had a lot of naval battles. Here's shown the battle of Port Arthur (idk about the trajectory of the ships tho)
[0:27-0:31] Dogger Bank incident--the Russian navy attacked British fishing trawlers thinking they were Japanese ships. A ship was sunk and also Russia hit some of their own ships. More casualties were prevented because the Russian fleet could not aim and one ship wasted 500 shells without hitting anything??? This event almost led the UK to declare war on Russia (the UK and Japan were allies at his time), and Russia paid for the damages.
[0:32-0:36] Like I mentioned, the Russian fleet went around Africa to get to Japan in the east, however poor working conditions and growing losses in the Russo-Japanese war among other things caused unrest among the sailors and the people and eventually a revolution in 1905. This would be the precursor for the Russian revolution in 1917.
[0:36-0:38] Japan ended up winning, which surprised everybody. This was basically the first time a European country lost to an Asian one. The techniques used in this war would later be used in WW1. The war ended with the Treaty of Portsmouth (mediated by the US) and it gave Japan a lot of land. However, Japan wasn't really happy with the treaty considering how costly the war was. It also kinda stopped Russia from continuing to expand their sphere of influence in Asia. This may have been what caused Russia to turn to the Balkans instead, which would also lead to WW1. Korea was taken over by Japan in 1910, and China would eventually lose Manchuria to Japan (1930s)
End screen: Montenegro declared war on Japan, and the peace treaty wasn't signed until 2006, more than 100 years later 😭
