'You're My Refuge for Life' (aka 'Shelter') (피난처) is a song that was recorded in 2001 by the Korean CCM/gospel band named 포스 (POS) (the band is named after Greek word φῶς (phós), which means "light"). It is one of the tracks from POS's album called "Letter to the Sky". Sohyang is the lead singer of this group.

This is my music video tribute to the brave and devout people of Tigray, for whom a "refuge for life" has been reserved by their Creator.

During the Ethiopian war that ran from November 2020 to November 2022, an estimated 330,000 Tigrayan women became victims of a systematic campaign of rape and "horrific" abuse, including the insertion of foreign objects such as rusty nails into the uterus.

This was part of a broader genocidal strategy intended to clear these areas for the foreign mining companies. The Ethiopian national government led by PM Abiy Ahmed, had signed away mining rights in the region to these mining companies, before building up military in the northern region of Ethiopia (at the Northern Command) in preparation for an attack on Tigray. There were 38 such mining contracts signed; and they were found to have overlapping terms, which suggests that the Ethiopian government was not keeping track well of what privileges were given to whom. Geologist Chris Bargman has lectured on the vast mineral reserves that are in the "Arabian Nubian Shield", and these resources are mostly untapped, making this region one of the most coveted areas for mining activities:

The Ethiopian national government received military aid from Turkey, the UAE, China, and "covertly" or less conspicuously, by many Western nations. In contrast, the Tigray Defense Forces were fighting on foot with AK-47 assault rifles and had only the tanks that they managed to seize from the enemy. Before and during the conflict, a severe embargo of food, fertilizer, and grain was imposed on Tigray, along with shutdown of bank and cellphone services; and deliberate electrical outages for most of Tigray. Drone bombings occurred at public markets, schools, homes, hospitals, etc. on a regular basis.
