When the tragedy hit, Belal found himself completely overwhelmed. He didn’t want to speak to anyone. No words of comfort reached him. It all felt hollow — people were speaking, but nothing was penetrating the pain. It was in those moments of darkness, in Lebanon, that he turned inward — and the Qur’an became his lifeline.

Verses he had recited for years suddenly took on entirely new meanings. “Do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allah is most merciful to you.” This verse, among others, reached a place in him that no human could. He had heard it, recited it, even memorized it — but this time, it wasn’t him reading the Qur’an. It was the Qur’an reading him.

Surah Yusuf in particular brought immense comfort. He didn’t need scholarly explanation or tafsir in that moment. He needed spiritual medicine — and Allah provided it through His words. The Qur’an truly is a shifa (healing) for the hearts, as Allah tells us. But that healing doesn’t always come in the way we expect — it comes when we live with the Qur’an daily, even if only for 10–15 minutes. Not just with our minds, but with our hearts.

This video is a powerful reminder from Belal Assad to all of us: the Qur’an isn’t just for study — it’s for survival. Especially in grief.
