I missed the boat
to set me free

it was no accident

clutching a crate
with dreams of the sea
plans for escape
and clean air to breathe
but these sentiments
so clearly conceived
now steeped in derision
and sudden deceit


in this climate
the pirates
do as they please
so violent
and strident
on their sullen sprees
with head bowed
I walk down
these chaotic streets
in silence
defiant
at glory’s defeat

the one chance to flee
this bitter landscape
where once we could see
a future unhindered
by fury and grief
