It also has a very predictable growth habit, which is why it's often used in city parks and other public spaces. Landscape designers love this tree for it's ability to adapt in many landscape settings. This is truly one of the most popular trees in the US, if not the globe. Here's some more quick facts!

Appearance: Deciduous shrub or small tree, known for its vibrant, crepe-like flowers in shades of pink, red, white, or purple. Glossy, dark green leaves turn yellow, orange, or red in the fall.

Growth Characteristics: Reaches heights of 10-30 feet, with a spread of 10-20 feet. Features a multi-stemmed, vase-shaped canopy and attractive, exfoliating bark.

USDA Zone: Hardy in USDA zones 7-9, with some varieties tolerating zone 6 with winter protection.

Watering Needs: Moderate; prefers regular watering during dry periods but is drought-tolerant once established.

Sun Needs: Thrives in full sun (6+ hours of direct sunlight per day) for optimal flowering and growth.

Pruning: Prune in late winter to early spring before new growth starts. Remove dead or crossing branches and shape for a balanced canopy. Light pruning after flowering can encourage new blooms.
