What is a decorator in TypeScript?

In TypeScript, decorators are a feature that allows you to add metadata or behavior to classes, methods, properties, or parameters in a declarative way. They provide a way to modify the behavior of classes and their members during design time. Decorators are heavily used in various libraries and frameworks, particularly in the context of web development with frameworks like Angular.

Decorators are those special types of declaration that are used to decorate the class and its members in typescript. Decorators are used to add annotations and metadata in our existing code. We can use decorators usually before the definition of a function we want to decorate.


Decorators are typically prefixed with the @ symbol and are applied just before a class declaration, method, property, or parameter. TypeScript officially supports decorators since version 1.5, and they are heavily influenced by the decorator proposal for JavaScript.
