#shorts So Bang Zoom! Entertainment came to Anime Central 2019, to give many the opportunity to do live voice acting auditions for Sword Art Online: Alicization. With 1 winner out of the many callbacks picked each day of the convention, getting a paid trip to their studios in Burbank, California courtesy of Aniplex & Acen. Where the winner would get to actually voice a character in Sword Art Online: Alicization.

For the live open audition, Bang Zoom had serval typical Anime Character types monologues to read from. I chose "Manipulator" on Day 2 & “The Bully” on Day 3. From what I roughly remember in the descriptions respectively. The “Manipulator” was described as someone who is cunning, intelligent, and friendly until you turn your back, where they will not hesitate to betray you. Then “The Bully”, was described as entitled, having an nasty temper, and arrogant.

For the Manipulator, I went for a more sinister, yet somewhat low-key delivery. I chose this take on the monologue, because it was different than the way everyone else was delivering it. Even Laura Stahl pointed out that she “hadn’t quite heard it like that!” While this audition didn’t get me a call back, I still enjoy delivering my lines the way I did. For the bully, since the lines called for a much higher range of emotion, I went with an “Arrogant and you’re all beneath me” type attitude to delivery the lines. It was this audition, that got me a callback to become a finalist. Even though I didn’t win, I had a great time and looking forward to learning more.
