As a child of an electrical engineer and programmer, he found himself attending Cal Berkeley until he decided to switch his career towards a full-time cartoonist. Self-publishing himself through First Second Books with groundbreaking graphic novels such as American Born Chinese, Boxers & Saints, The Eternal Smile, adding to the hit worldwide television show with Gurihiru on Avatar: The Last Airbender, and powering through the revitalization of the Superman line with Kenan Kong starring in New Super-Man, I was able to talk to none other than multiple award-winning writer and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Gene Luen Yang about his craftsmanship in creating stories, the tough conversations with Superman Smashes the Klan, his relationship with comics, and so much more!
