Essentially, position yourself next to your ball and have a look at the hole and at the terrain between your ball and the hole. Ask yourself how you would best go about throwing the ball towards the hole with your hand. Would you decide to throw the ball very high into the air or would you instinctively opt to throw the ball low to the ground and see the ball roll most of the distance.

We argue that when there are no obstacles between your ball and the hole, such as water, bunkers, hills, etc., you are better off using a pitching wedge rather than a lob wedge. The low chip shot displays a better risk/reward profile and will probably be most effective over 100 shots.
