Galvanized Tub: a DIY Stenciling Project | Designer Stencils

Описание к видео Galvanized Tub: a DIY Stenciling Project | Designer Stencils

With the weather warming up, it's time to cool down with a craftily stenciled galvanized tub & drinks 🍹 on ice!

👉 In this tutorial, we show you how to stencil onto an uneven metal surface. To do this project you will need repositionable spray adhesive, acrylic paint, a stencil brush, & Americana Gloss Spray Sealer. These supplies may be found on www.DesignerStencils.com & links are provided below.

1️⃣ To start, simply spray the back of your stencil from 8-12 inches away with the Repositionable Spray Adhesive. Allow at least 30 seconds for the spray to become tacky before placing the stencil into place. The repositionable spray adhesive will remain tacky on your stencil beyond this initial project.
2️⃣ After the 30 seconds, carefully place your stencil into place. Since we are working on an irregular surface you do not need to press the entire stencil down at once since we will be painting section by section.
3️⃣ Put some paint onto a paper plate, swirl it onto your stencil brush, then swirl most of the paint off onto a piece of paper towel. Your brush should feel dry to the touch before you begin stippling in your design.
4️⃣ If you add too much paint too quickly the paint will run beneath the edges of the stencil and make your design appear to be blurry. This is true for any stenciling project but especially true when stenciling smooth metal. You must apply your paint in several thin coats of paint. The first coat may feel like the paint is sliding around on the glossy metal but once it dries the next coat will stick better.
5️⃣ Instead of working from left to right I chose to start in the center. This helps to keep the stencil in one place rather than shifting from one side to the other. To stencil this irregular surface you will need to get your hands a little dirty.
6️⃣ As you stencil over the bumps, grooves & curves of your galvanized tub, use your pointer & index finger to hold down the section of the stencil you're stippling. Be sure to stipple onto the edge of the stencil design to make sure you have sharp, detailed edges on your design.
7️⃣ Once you have full coverage gently lift your stencil off the surface of your project. The final step is to spray the freshly stenciled paint with a coat of acrylic Americana Spray Sealer. This will protect the paint and help prevent it from getting rubbed off the surface
