Winner of the 2018 Safe Streets Community Award, the City of Miami Beach has taken enormous steps in prioritizing bicycle, pedestrian, and transit options for both its residents and people coming to the area. The City serves as an example for the implementation of not only Complete Streets, but also in building infrastructure that is resilient to future weather-related impacts. Participants in this tour will bike on a Citi Bike from Brightline’s MiamiCentral Station, through portions of the City of Miami and across the Venetian Causeway to the Meridian Ave/Lincoln Road area in Miami Beach. The bike ride will include stops at Sunset Harbor to learn about the resiliency improvements made in the area and at locations where Complete Streets elements have been implemented. The total bike route length is 5.5 miles with approximately 4 miles of the ride on dedicated green bike lanes. Participants will have an opportunity to explore the City Center/Lincoln Road area on their own, where they can eat lunch, shop or even visit the beach. A trolley ride back to MiamiCentral Station with a view of a future BERT demonstration and SMART plan project proposed on the Julia Tuttle Causeway will be provided at the end of the tour. Bikes and helmets will be provided to all registrants by Citi Bike.
