Toshiba's MQ01 family of drives has two variants: Drives that lack a -V suffix (like this MQ01ABD100) are drives that use shingled magnetic recording (SMR), whereas drives with the suffix (i.e. MQ01ABD100V) use conventional magnetic recording (CMR). Despite the downgrade, it is very apparent that Toshiba does SMR better than Seagate on their mobile drives, even if Seagate were the first to use SMR. Additionally, in typical Toshiba fashion, these drives have an overbearingly basic seek test that only lasts a second.
