Weary Blues - Dutch Swing College Band 1976

A year later I met this same band in Toronto. In a double concert in a 330 seat tavern DSC and our Climax JB played a few evenings together.
At one of the evenings, I had my Uher reel to reel recorder on the stage, our clarinetist Jim Buchmann was invited to join the DSC in Weary blues, thus featuring not two, but three clarinets. After twelve minutes of
unbelievable excitement the band brought the house down. I still have the audio recording in my collection and and it is still one of my favourites.
Some time ago I presented a version of the Weary blues where the band was recorded for Radio Nederland. Certainly the band played skilfully and with taste, but nothing beats a live performance.
Here at a concert in Vienna, Austria the tune also goes close to 10 minutes of total time. Peter Schilperoort is not just technical and musical, but he is daring, always trying new improvisational creations, he must be a surprise to his own bandmembers, and the challenge is the more exciting when this is performed in front of a large audience.
I'm very happy that I had opportunities to have met Peter many times and a few occasions to even play together with him.
He was our Dutch traditional jazz father and we all ( Dutch jazz musicians) have learned from him. Thank you Peter.
