The State Election Commission, Mizoram (SEC) today organized a one-day training for Municipal Returning Officers (MROs), Asst.MROs, Election Officers and Nodal Officers for the upcoming Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections.
The training was opened by State Election Commissioner Dr. H.Lalthangliana said that election duty is the most important thing for government employees. Once the SEC issues an appointment order for Election officials, Government employees are under the SEC. The SEC does not care whether the official is busy with his office work, but whether he is efficient. Therefore, the SEC is confident that the AMC election will be conducted in a fair manner. Election is not to be taken lightly, but as a festival with calmness, caution and confidence. Officials who make mistakes during elections are usually experienced and over confident. Therefore, the election should be conducted with confidence but not over confidence, he said.
Referring to the authority of the SEC, Dr.H. Lalthangliana said that SEC, Mizoram is not a function of the Mizoram government and is not under the control of political parties. In elections, political parties are subject to the SEC. AMC Election and Budget sessions are too busy; AMC-2026 Election hi a sawn hla mai a ni a, AMC-2026 Election hi a sawn hla mai a ni. The SEC will take advice from political parties if necessary, but the SEC will do what it thinks is best, which is the principle of the SEC. The SEC is not obliged to follow the views of the government and political parties, he said.
Addressing the trainees, Dr.H. Lalthngaliana said that the Constitution of India was written by experts for more than three years and has been amended several times. Even if the law covers everything, your efficiency will be shown when you have to make decisions between the lines. The law is to be known in body and soul.
When there is no body of the law, we must walk according to the spirit of the law. If you cannot make a decision, you should seek the advice of the SEC. The SEC decision is the law. He said that decision making is a wrong decision, he said. He advised the trainees to improve their training so that they can teach others.
The training was chaired by Pu Vanlalchhuanawma Chawngthu, Deputy Secretary, SEC, Mizoram. Pi Laldinfeli, State Level Master Trainer conducted the training.
