This is the third video in a series running some of the bigger rapids of the Kern River during the phenomenal runoff of the 2019 season. Upper Salmon Falls is a Class V+ rapid on the Upper Kern that is most often portaged privately, always portaged commercially, and is usually only run by expert hardshell kayakers. It has dangerous sieves on the right side and a keeper hole that is completely avoidable at flows higher than 4000 cfs if you can remain on river left. This is the Big One on the Upper Kern stretch... many years of scouting and visualizing went into preparing for this run. This rapid is rarely kayaked, rafted even less, not sure if it's been run in a ducky, and am pretty sure this is the first packraft descent. Running this rapid is not recommend without years of experience, knowing the sweet level, and setting proper safety downstream.
