Plaza Cuartel in Puerto Princesa holds the story of one of the worst atrocities of WWII by the Japanese against the US forces in Asia and it happened here in the Philippines. The plaza was once a barracks and then a POW camp for US servicemen who were forced to build roads and an airport runway on meagre rations. The Japanese, on hearing the US forces were taking back the Philippines, were then ordered to "dispose of them" - the American POW's. follow the links below for more information about the daring escape from certain death at the hands of the Japanese army.
