From the 1989 movie Glory, directed by Edward Zwick, a story based on the books Lay This Laurel by Lincoln Kirstein and One Gallant Rush by Peter Burchard, as well as the personal letters of the real-life Union army soldier, Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. This story depicts the Massachusetts 54th regiment of the Union army during the American Civil War.
