I Chased and Paced this Rio Grande lettered, “Silverton Mixed” train with rare, mid train helper until they tie up in Silverton for the night. The Durango and Silverton NGRR commemorated the K-28 locomotives 100-years of service during their Fall Photo Special. "Turning The Mix" shows how this mid train helper train is split up to turn the train around.
Trading off cab duties was Jon Cox, Joe Dailey, Kylah and Nick Breeden. Dylan Rogers, Russell Heerdt, Nick Battelo and Kyle Danielson were conductors and brakemen. More Silverton Mixed With Mid Train Helper: "Before The Departure" captures the mid train helper train being put together and the departure before the sun peaked over the mountains. Part 1 includes the 7:05 AM (dark) departure from Durango with locomotives #473 and #476 mid train, the 32nd Street crossing, pacing the train through the valley and the stop for water at Hermosa. “Part 2” includes the Hermosa water stop, Hermosa departure, Shalona Lake crossing, Rockwood and Silverton arrival. The "Arrival" captures the arrival from Kendall Mountain in Silverton. "Spot and Tie Up" shows the final moves, spotting the passenger and freight cars and servicing the locomotives for the morning departure.
