Jesus knew the danger of equating himself to God. He knew the troubles it had landed him into in the hands of the religious leaders. Yet, again and again, he will call God his father. He also knew the power and ministry of that identity. Even though it will put his life at risk, he will continue to proclaim it boldly.
He did not just tell them that God was his father, he will say it in very clear terms and he would be saying it at the expense of his life.
"I and my Father are one."
Nobody has ever said it in the four thousand years history of God and men. Even their father Abraham was just a servant of God. Moses who gave them the law from God and saw God face to face had never said that. He had said what no prophet or priest had ever said and they will not wait for any other words to come out of his mouth.
"Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
