ChoreoLab 2021 is inspired by the human striving for higher things - hence the title "Higher!".

As is well known, Ulm’s Cathedral has the highest church tower in the world at 161.53 meters. One day in the not-too-distant future, it will lose this world record, which it has held since 1890. With the completion of the Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona, there will then be a new tallest church tower at 170 meters. ChoreoLab 2021 has commissioned two choreographers from Baden-Württemberg and two from Barcelona to investigate, reflect and question, what actually drives people to build ever "higher"? Is it about power, prestige, status, identity or is it the human desire to unite and believe in something greater than ourselves?

This year's "ChoreoLab - Made in Ulm" also marks the beginning of a cultural exchange between the cities of Ulm and Barcelona. As part of this exchange, the "ChoreoLab" evening "Higher!” was performed in Barcelona for at the Sant Andreu Theatre (SAT!) on September 18, 2021. 

ChoreoLab – Made in Ulm commissions #international #dance #makers to create and #premier a #network in 35 hours. #ChoreoLab nurtures and cultivates international dance makers and artists to be create and perform works inspired by #Ulm. The residency initiates and cultivates an open conversation between dance makers, artists, dance lovers and the public. This allows more understanding and insight of dance, allowing us to strengthen the social fabric through art and international cultural exchange. ⁠
