Former prime minister Paul Keating has received criticism for his recent remarks against Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, concerning Australia’s strained relationship with China.

“I mean that guy has a serious relevance deprivation problem … he thinks he’s central to everything and he can’t bear that Labor has moved on from him,” said the Australian Foreign Editor Greg Sheridan.

“He’s a very sad person, Paul Keating, he’s bitter, he’s hypersensitive, he can’t bear the fact that he lost to John Howard – who he thinks is an inferior person.

“He can’t bear that Anthony Albanese, Penny Wong and Richard Marles, none of them who he thinks hold a candle to him intellectually, are so successful.”
