[PC] Super Hydorah - Pilot Mode 1cc (No-Miss, No-Bomb, All Stages)

A clear of the game without continuing or restarting stages. As well as beating the game without dying, using any of the power items and clearing all the stages to get the good ending.

Super Hydorah is a game made by Locomalito, who is known for making really high quality freeware games that are often love letters to beloved franchises. A couple of his games also got retail remakes, Super Hydorah being one of them. Hydorah is his take on shmups, with the main inspiration being classic games like Gradius, R-Type, Darius etc.

Super Hydorah is a remake of the freeware game Hydorah (which you can still download). System and stages were reworked, and it added a bunch of extra stages.

This game has many different shots, subshots and bombs that you gradually unlock by beating stages. You choose a load-out at the start of every stage.

You power up your shot and subshot from red powerup containers. These drop a powerup that cycle between green and red.
Green - Powers up the main shot.
Red - Powers up the subshot.
The shot and subshot power up at level 5 and level 10 (max).
You need to power up every shot and subshot individually.

There are also powerup containers that drop powerups that cycle between three different powerups. These are:
Blue - Speed up. Max speed is three.
Yellow - Power. A bomb. Can hold a max of three at a time.
Purple - Shield. Gives you a one-hit shield. Gives you three hits on Rookie Mode.

There is a secret in every stage. This usually involves touching a certain spot in the stage. I'm not sure if the secrets actually do anything but I got them because why not. I completely forgot the one in Silent Fleet though because I was too scared of dying lol.

All the stages are very unique from each other. Every stage has a unique setting, unique enemies and unique mechanics/gimmicks.
Stages are short but very compact. Things don't really get repeated, they cut to the chase and then move on to the boss.

For the first half of the game my plan is to get Light asap since you get 2000 points for every bomb item you pick up instead of the usual 500 at max. On the way I power up Wide Shot in Deep Space since it's free and I need it for some other stages. For the 2nd half I make a beeline for Vulcan and Homing since those are the most powerful weapons in the game. I can do the rest of the stages in any order after that.
Light doesn't actually do anything besides give you more score for bomb items and acting as a key for Black Gate.

The game has a bad and a good ending. In order to get the good ending, you need to destroy all the 'Hydorah Seeds'. These are located at the end of various stages (the map before the final boss shows which stages). These are usually the harder and longer stages.
The ending is slightly different if you 1cc or not. The statues at the end will be different.

The game is not that terribly difficult I'd say. You also get a shitton of lives and shield drops are very frequent. The boss rush I'd say is one of the hardest parts in the game exactly because you have to survive pretty long until the next shield drop. The game is obviously a lot harder if you're not playing with an optimal load-out though. It's also extremely long. An all-stages run clocks in around an hour and 15 minutes, which is much longer than most 2-ALL's. It will be even longer if you die a bunch and have to replay checkpoints.

Oh right the game does have checkpoints by the way, so if you die you lose power and go back to a previous checkpoint. Most checkpoints let you get power back but there are some nasty checkpoints. The midboss checkpoint in the final stage is one of those. You get zero powerups back when you die and that can spiral out of control fast.

The upcoming Exa arcade port seems to counter most of these points though. The game is a lot harder and lives and shields are much rarer. It also got rid of the checkpoints.
