POCKET PISTOLS

This 8-minute video looks at self-defence in the Golden Age of Coach Travel. The main focus is on the astonishingly ingenious pocket pistol. To give context I also talk about the blunderbuss and the nature of wounds from a regular flintlock pistol.

All the images were filmed for inclusion in two films I made for History Hit ( History)
in 2022. ‘Stand and Deliver’ is about Highwaymen and ‘Quicksilver’ is the fascinating story of the origin of the Mail Coach in Britain, featuring a working reconstruction of an original Mail Coach called “Quicksilver’. All filming leaves chunks on the cutting room floor. However I was so intrigued by the pocket pistols (casualties of the edit) that History Hit kindly gave me permission to make this little film to showcase them.
