My Postgraduate thesis was to analyse using CFD (Star-CCM+) ways in which the Von Karman Street vortex and subsequent oscillations of the cylinder can be suppressed.

All simulations conducted at Reynolds number = 100

All geometries meshed in ICEM.

Motion is enabled by use of the DFBI tool within Star-CCM+ and use of an overset mesh to represent the moving cylinder.

Mass ratio = 3.3 for all VIV cases, a linear spring is also coupled to the cylinder and the surrounding environment with an effective stiffness of 2.42 (see Shiels et al. (2001))
