This is my first "solo" release since Some Days Must Be Dark and Dreary, as in not the soundtrack to something. I planned to have some more of these this year, but I ended up needing to score a lot of things, from a ton of BËNTHIC content to the soundtrack of Ravaged by Storms, which was a nice surprise that filled out the rest of this year's lineup.

And this was mostly made because of Some Days Must Be Dark and Dreary. I love that album, I truly think it is my finest work and unless I go through some other emotional crisis I probably can't top it. But that is part of the problem. I poured my soul into that album, and as a result it felt more like venting than a mature look into something. My albums usually have some kind of deeper meaning. Sulfur Spring Getaway was about the effort of relaxation and vacation. Slack Drip of Water was about the moments that you long for in retrospect. Some Days, though, was about my own pain and misery, not very mature no matter how good the product is. So I did the logical thing and wrote an album about maturity.

One Day Older is a meditative walk through the woods in springtime. I wanted to distance myself as much as possible from my previous works with this one, and so it's far closer to the works of C418's Minecraft volumes than Chris Christodoulou or Darren Korb. The timbre is much quieter and the form is more flowing and less structured, and instead of interesting connections to water in some way, the tracks are mostly named after unimportant places or events in my own life.

This is an album about what it means to become mature, to look past what's in front of you and to not let yourself be bogged down by little things. It's about waking up. It's about moving on, saying farewell to how life was and seeing what it can become. It's the sprouting spring after the scouring winter. It's nothing at all at the same time.

My other goal with this was to play with the sides a bit more. Side A is more melodic, featuring meandering, flowy melodies, while Side B is more ambient and quiet. Both sides also have their exceptions to this, but I think those tracks can speak for themself in how intentional the shift is.
