Build Tip #1 Self-Fixturing Design: One of the biggest challenges that amateur fabricators face today is the accurate location and securing of components prior to welding. If you're doing your own designs, you can incorporate features to assist with this and make your build faster and easier. Self-Fixturing Design is a technique where the designer incorporates special geometry into CNC plasma or laser cut sheet metal parts at the design stage, specifically for fixturing, to help perfectly locate parts for welding. Self-Fixturing design includes tab-in-slot techniques, locating by slot perimeter, and using removable fixturing pieces. The video below explains these techniques in detail.
