Weed of the Week: Old man's beard

As the legendary David Bellamy once said: Old man’s beard must go! And that message is just as important today as it was in 1989.

Old man’s beard is listed in Taranaki’s Regional Pest Management Plan, which means if it’s on your property you must destroy it. The only two exceptions are along parts of the Waingongoro and Patea Rivers, see www.trc.govt.nz/pest-management-what-you-need-to-know.

It’s horrible stuff that smothers and strangeles native trees. It’s flowering at the moment which means it’s easy to spot, although will be starting to go to seed.
