This 2-part appendix to the Radio Design 101 video series covers issues important in successful construction of radio frequency circuits. In this first part, we concentrate on component parasitics and when and how transmission line theory comes into play. While construction techniques are illustrated and example products are shown, the focus is on when and why the complexities of parasitics must be considered and how to address them. Part 2 will continue this journey and focus on the problem of coupling between circuits, including how shielding works and how multi-layer PCB construction offers significant implicit shielding advantages.
