Rusty Stanchion Backing Plate Replaced with G10

When rust marks appeared at the base of one of our stanchion posts I had to cut away the fibreglass until I found a very rusted and swollen backing plate which had caused cracks to develop in the gel coat.

Replacing a stanchion post backing plate SHOULD be one of the easier and cheaper maintenance jobs. I replaced it with a G10 epoxy resin sheet then re-fiberglassed over the repair and finished off with Norski Flowcoat, a type of polyester resin paint. I then tapped it and replaced the stanchion post.
