How To Upgrade Windows 10 To Go On External Hard Drive/Solid State Drives (SSD, USB Drives.)

In this video I'm Upgrading Windows 10 Version 1803 installed on a external (USB) Hard Drive to Version 1809(Feature Update). This video Shows you exactly how to directly upgrade Windows 10 on external hard drive without re-creating a new installation using WinToUSB, Rufus, CMD etc. Make sure you have a backup of your important files just in case. Although all your files will remain intact just like if you are upgrading Windows on your Internal Hard Disk. Its still best to have a backup.

Note: This works and has been tested on all versions of Windows 10. Even for the latest version which is Windows 10, version 21H1 Build 10.0.19043 (May 2021 Update).

Also using this method should work for Upgrading Windows 11, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022.

~Requirements:
Windows 10 Installation ISO

Step 1:
Run/Open Regedit

Step 2:
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

AND:
Change the value "PortableOperatingSystem" from “1” to "0"

Note: If PortableOperatingSystem doesn't exists create one by right click Qword(64 bits) or for 32 Bits systems Dword(32bit) At:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

Step 3:
Mount ISO or Extract the ISO, and run setup.exe file to start the Windows Installation on your USB External Hard Drive/Solid State Drive (SSD) USB Stick Drives.

Final Step:
Windows 10 To go was successfully upgraded with everything intact.
