On the menu this week
BBQ chicken with roasted potatoes
schnitzel with coleslaw and green beans
sweet and sour chicken with noodles:
( we have an extra meal of meat/chicken because this week was rosh chodesh ( the beginning of the month) and we have the tradition do eat meat on rosh chodesh
fish nuggets with garden salad and turkish rice
falafel, pita and salad

BBQ chicken
4 tsp of paprika
4 tsp of garlic powder
4 tsp of mustard powder
4 tsp of salt
4 tsp of crushed pepper
4 tsp of BBQ spice
half a can of beer
2 cloves of garlic cut in quarters
1chicken about 2 1/2 to 3 pounds or 40 to 48 oz
2-3 tbsp olive oil
half an onion ( add on top of chicken)
for a 2.5lbs chicken 1h30
for a 3lbs chicken 1h45


Fish nuggets

2 eggs
2 tsp lemon juice (optional)
2-3 tbsp of parsley ( you can replace with 1-2 tablespoons of bread crumbs if you do not like parsley 🌿!!)
10 tbsp bread crumbs gluten or gluten free
3-4 (5 oz) cans tuna, drained
3 tbsp diced onion (optional)

1 pinch ground black pepper
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2tbsp of water
1-2 tsp paprika
1-2 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)


Chicken schnitzel

4 boneless chicken breasts (to make Austrian Wienerschnitzel use thin veal cutlets)
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 -3 large eggs, lightly beaten
3/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
Oil for frying (use a neutral-tasting oil with a high smoke point)

sweet and sour chicken

1 1/2 pounds chicken thighs cut into 1” chunks/strips
canola oil for frying
1 cup pineapple chunks (optional)
1 red bell pepper cut into 1” chunks/ strips ( whatever you prefer!)
1 green bell pepper cut into 1” chunks strips ( whatever you prefer!)
1 yellow onion cut into 1” chunks or diced ( whatever you prefer!)
1/2 to 1 tsp salt ( to taste)
1tsp garlic powder
1tbsp of parsley
1tsp of sweet paprika
1 container of your favourite sweet and sour sauce we like atika chili sauce!

FALAFEL

1-2 bags of falafel balls
cucumber
tomatoes
salad
tehina
hummus
avocadoes
oinions

Turkish rice ( this is what my mom calls it!!)

1 tablespoon margarine or vegan butter Add ½ tablespoon more if you like it very buttery.
1 teaspoon olive oil
¼ cup orzo pasta
2 cups baldo rice or Arborio rice, rinsed and drained
4 cups water freshly boiled or chicken stock
salt to taste
1/2 tsp curcuma ( for the colour!)

On low-medium heat, melt the vegan butter in a medium saucepan and add the oil. Stir in the orzo and cook for 1 minute, till it changes colour (be careful not to let it burn).

Add the baldo rice and continue to stir till it changes colour and all the rice is coated in vegan butter.

Pour in the hot water or liquid, add salt +curcuma and stir. Cover with a lid, bring to a boil, and simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove from heat, and keeping the lid on, allow to stand for 5 mins. Fluff with a fork and serve.
