Backpacking Scenic River Trail - Wayne National Forest, OH

Welcome back to another backpacking adventure! I went on this trip with my buddy Bryon in celebration of my two-year anniversary on YouTube. I've been pressed for time lately, so this was a good trail selection that coincided with the birth of my channel, but also allowed for a quick overnight getaway without a large time commitment.

We backpacked two trails in this loop, the Scenic River Trail and Greenwood Trail. This loop is in the Wayne National Forest, OH. The trailhead is only a couple hundred feet from the Ohio River and there are some limited views of the river from atop the ridgelines on trail.

Despite having been here before, this outdoor adventure was like a whole new world this time around. We hiked in heavy rains for the majority of day one, which made all of the streams and creeks come alive. During my previous trip, nearly every stream was bone dry, but this time we must have seen 50 mini waterfalls!

I got to field test some new gear this trip. The main piece of gear was the Outdoor Vitals Tushar rain jacket. I can say that after about four hours of heavy rain, the Tushar did its job. I still sweat a bit from the inside and got my t-shirt wet, but the jacket itself was still dry. I also changed the way I set up my hammock tarp. I bought a continuous ridgeline and hardware from Dutchware to improve my setup and takedown time for my hammock and tarp. I also added a mod so I can use my trekking poles to lift the panel pull outs on the tarp which worked great.

The sound of rain pattering the Hammock Gear dyneema tarp was very rhythmic and made for a great nights sleep. It was also nice to be next to a creek to listen to running water throughout the night. The temperature dropped down to freezing overnight, but I managed to stay nice and toasty my Warbonnet quilts.

Overall, this was a very good trip and it was great to be back in the Wayne National Forest!
