Описание к видео Victory of Students Movement, 5 August 2024

The 2024 Quota Reform Movement in Bangladesh has become one of the most significant and turbulent social movements in the country's recent history. Initially sparked by frustrations over the reinstatement of a controversial quota system for government jobs, the protests have evolved into a broader expression of discontent among students and young professionals.

The movement began in response to a court decision that reinstated a system in which over 50% of government jobs were reserved for specific groups, including 30% for descendants of those who fought in Bangladesh's 1971 War of Independence. This decision, seen as favoring the ruling Awami League and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's supporters, triggered widespread protests across the country. The protests, which started peacefully, escalated dramatically after police and security forces responded with force, leading to violent clashes and a severe crackdown.

By mid-2024, the situation had worsened significantly, with over 150 people reportedly killed and thousands injured. The government imposed a nationwide curfew, suspended internet services, and deployed the military in an attempt to quell the unrest. Despite the violence and government efforts to suppress the movement, protesters have continued to demand not just the reform of the quota system but also justice for those killed and greater transparency in governance.

The Supreme Court later recommended reducing the quotas significantly, proposing that 93% of government jobs be based on merit. However, this decision did not fully satisfy the protesters, who remain skeptical of the government's intentions and the potential for real reform.

The movement has highlighted broader issues of governance, corruption, and youth unemployment in Bangladesh, and it poses a significant challenge to the Hasina government. The outcome of the movement and the government's response in the coming months could have profound implications for Bangladesh's political landscape.
Due to the death of many lives in the movement, the students demand stepdown of the prime minister. Finally, the prime minister left the country after handing over the power.
